28 February 2011 On 13 June 2008, Austrian lawyers on behalf of ECCHR filed a complaint against the Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov on charges of torture and attempted duress before the Austrian prosecutor's office. Seven months later, on 13 January 2009, the chief witness, Umar Israilov, was shot dead in the streets of Vienna.

17 October 2011 On 29 September 2011, ECCHR addressed in an open letter Hilary Swank, Vanessa Mae, Shakira, Kevin Costner as well as Eva Mendes that were, according to media reports, invited to participate in an event on the occasion of the city’s day and the birthday of the Chechen head Ramzan Kadyrov in Grozny on October 5.
